Sewing event at Zuleeg April 2022
At the beginning of April 2022, I attended Zuleeg's sewing camp in Helmbrechts. I'm a repeat offender, and I'll definitely do it again.
I first visited Zuleeg last September. I was already familiar with the fabrics and was impressed by their professional quality. These are the kind of fabrics you'd find in high-quality store-bought clothing. With these fabrics, you can sew stylish garments that you'll firstly truly love and secondly wear for a long time. That was important to me. Now I could see and, most importantly, feel the fabrics in all their diversity and beauty.
But it's not just the amazing fabrics that make the experience at Zuleeg so special. It's everything about it. The organization is fantastic, and everyone there is so caring. You arrive and immediately connect with each other. Steffi, Funda, and Miriam are so warm and attentive, trying to fulfill every wish. The food is simply fantastic, and I haven't seen anyone go hungry. Last time, a vegan was there, and of course, Funda baked a vegan cake. Every participant is given special attention.
The factory tour is very interesting. This was my second time there, and I discovered so many new things. Seeing such professional fabric production and learning about the many large and small steps involved is truly impressive, and the participants were truly amazed.
The sewing takes place in a beautiful old workshop that was lovingly renovated last year. There's plenty of space for cutting, sewing, ironing, socializing, and even relaxing in a cozy seating area. Many seamstresses bring items they've sewn themselves for you to look at and try on. I find that really nice, for example, because you often don't know beforehand whether the pattern will suit you, which fabric is suitable, how it will fit, whether the size is right, etc.
On Saturday, there was an after-sew party. We were all just girls, but we still danced wildly. Funda mixed the cocktails, and everyone had some time to chat and get to know each other.
That's one of the best things about it – we're all connected by this wonderful hobby and passion for sewing, and it always leads to conversations. Even if you go to sewing camp alone, you won't be alone. There are so many topics and conversation topics, and you realize that sewing really does bring people together. When I was there last September, I met some lovely sewing friends – Anja and Angelika. We've always kept in touch and talked about sewing projects and private and personal things. I met Anja in April, and I hope to see Angelika again this year at Zuleeg in Helmbrechts.
I've sometimes considered going somewhere else. But my time is limited, and with the fantastic Zuleeg team, everything just works – organization with lots of love, a wonderfully pleasant sewing atmosphere, great conversations, mutual exchange, plenty of time for uninterrupted sewing, lots of high-quality fabrics, and such a wonderful warmth. So, I'll definitely be heading to Helmbrechts again this year.
Finally, I don't want to forget to mention that Villa Weiss, where everyone always stays, is also beautiful. And if you arrive on a Thursday, everything is a bit more relaxed, and you even have some time for a visit to the Textile Museum in Helmbrechts.
All of this makes the sewing camp at Zuleeg a true sewing event for me, and Steffi already has new ideas for the next sewing events. I'm looking forward to it.
